Main Entrance to Oma's
Yesterday our 22 month old son and I went to Oma's Pumpkin Patch with his Mommy and Me class. We absolutely loved it! the weather was perfect. Van Ommering Dairy is home to Oma's Pumpkin Patch, a family owned and operated farm in Lakeside California. Directions to Oma's are very easy:

  1. Take interstate 8 East
  2. Exit at Lake Jennings Park Rd, as you exit make a left turn.
  3. Follow to 4 way stop with stop signs (you will see a 7-eleven there)
  4. Turn right onto El Monte Rd. (drive 2.3 miles)
  5. Turn left onto Dairy Rd. (dirt road)
  6. Follow dirt road to Pumpkin Patch
When we arrived we were instructed where to park and made our way to the main entrance where a little red barn serves as ticket booth and souvenir shop. I had checked their website but still didn't know what to expect. For starters they are very well organized from directing you to parking to giving you a tour on the hayride they use walkie-talkies that hook up to a speaker which help during the hayride when they stop for you to look at the cows the driver gets down and explains all about the cows, bulls and calfs.

Learn to milk a cow!

The hayride is very fun! we drove around the farm and were able to see goats, pony, alpacas, cows and more! We were definitely in for a surprise because on Tuesday when we visited a few hours earlier (6:00 a.m. to be exact) Van Ommering Dairy had welcomed a new member to their farm: a calf! we got to see the calf walking around looking oh so cute!

We also visited their petting corral where they have goats roaming around that allowed kids of all ages to pet them, our son couldn't stop petting them. He was so excited that we were in the corral for about 10 minutes. As you exit the corral they have a hand washing area set up with soap, water and paper towels.

At the picnic area they have shade and lots of picnic tables setup and guess what!? they also have some high chairs! that was the cherry on top for me! (you know I love to have high chairs for little boy to sit in and eat). There is also a snack bar that sells water, juices, milk, bagels, uncrustables, chips and much more. Everything is under $5.00 per item. Just make sure to bring your cash.
Across the picnic are is a cottonseed hill with shade and lots of little "sleds" you can climb up to the top with your "sled" and slide down! so much fun for the older kids. They also have little basketballs setup with hoops and step stools so that the little kids can dunk in the basketballs.

Sand Pile with lots of tractors!

Other activities include a play area designed for kids age 5 and under. This was where we were most of our visit, there is a sand pile with lots of toy tractors. Our son couldn't believe how many tractors there were to choose and don't worry about the sun this too is shaded! then you have several playhouses with ride on cars and an educational section that teaches the older kids about cows, dairy farms, there is also a hay maze and several tractors kids can ride on to take pictures and more.

These bracelets are handmade and gorgeous!
When you visit don't forget to stop by their store and get some fall decor or some beautiful bead bracelets for the season. Most of the items in the store are made here! They also have books and pumpkins, gourds.

There are a couple of things you should know, this is a farm which means there is tons of dirt so forget your flip flops at home and wear comfortable shoes. Also if it is warm and sunny outside make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen/sunblock and lots of water because it is warmer there.

Admission is $7.00 per child 1 year and older -this includes participation in all the activities, a water bottle and a jack pumpkin to take home-  1 adult per paying child plays free. Additional adults are $3.00 (water bottle and pumpkin NOT included in adult admission).

If you are visiting with a group of 20+ you should call Brenda at (619) 390-2929 to make a reservation.

This is a very fun pumpkin patch that you should visit this fall with your family. When you do visit make sure you tell them Stroller Adventures in SoCal sent you!
