Family Sunday at Mingei

How would you like to participate in a Museum Treasure Hunt? Make your own African style shaker {Shekeres}? and have a fun afternoon at the Mingei International Museum of Arts & Crafts?

This month make sure you visit Family Sunday at Mingei, it will take place on Sunday April 15th and it is sure to be fun! Admission is only $5.00 / family! can't beat that... The fun starts at 12:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

This African style shaker "Shekeres" is made out of a California-grown gourd, just add some shells, beads, rice or beans and you are set to make music. This instrument is played in several parts of the world. In some parts of Africa they play a major role in music and are a great accompaniment to several dances.

This activity will be led by Ruth and Martin Japtok, Ruth recently opened up an African/International Arts & Crafts, Jewelry and Home Decor boutique on Adams Ave. in Normal Heights. You may visit her store online here

Mingei International Museum hosts Family Sunday every third Sunday of each month, this events is excellent for families as they can explore the Museum's colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, win a prize for completing a treasure hunt and participate in other activities such as storytelling and hands-on crafts.
