Mother's Day

This mother's day will be the first time ever I am 550 miles away from my mom. I will not be celebrating with my mom. We will see each other soon and will have time to celebrate then, but for now I have pictures and fond memories of her growing up. You see my mom, is very special to me. She taught me so much! She taught me to cook {even though she doesn't know this}, she taught me to be strong {I can be}, she taught me how to be a caring mom, she taught me how to be a supportive wife, she taught me how to enjoy life. She taught me... wait a minute she is still teaching me!

I still learn from my mom every single day! We talk on the phone at least once a day, sometimes 20 times! and we always have something to say or share. She always listens, she is always supportive {she was the one that told me to start blogging}. She is also an awesome grandma, my kids adore her and are always happy when they are around her. She {according to my 6 year old} is the best grandma in the world.

So today when I picked up the mail I found an envelope addressed to me, I was a bit surprised because I never get anything personalized but it was from my mom and dad wishing me a happy mother's day. It was a great surprise and a very flattering one, thank you mom and dad! You made me smile.

I have two great women to thank for being who I am today: my grandmother {she passed away in 2009 and I still miss her everyday} and my mom.

I love you mom.

Great-grandmother, Grandmother and Adventure Girl.
In 2008, Adventure Girl made the perfect gift for me on her own:

This picture is a sweet reminder that my 6 year old was once a 3 year old... lovable as always!

Now I'd like to share some facts about Mother's Day with you:

Mother's Day a very special day of the year when we celebrate moms. In the United States Mother's Day is celebrated the second Sunday of the month of May. Tradition is to spend the day with mothers and/or grandmothers have either brunch {breakfast/lunch} or a nice bbq at home due to overwhelming crowds at restaurants. Some families give flowers and/or jewelry to their mom others plan for family reunions at home.

{Happy Mother's Day!}

But, did you know that in Mexico Mother's Day is celebrated on May 10th? So for tomorrow:

{Feliz Día de las Madres!}

Also even though it is not a Federal Holiday, most moms take the day off from work and enjoy a nice breakfast with other moms or their family. There are also elaborate school programs prepared by schools with their students for moms to enjoy. Yes I remember singing very meaningful songs to my mom.

While living in Baja Mexico, I remember getting friends together and arranging to serenade all our moms overnight from May 9th - May 10th and presenting our mother's with a bouquet of flowers. They would always greet us with a smile and a tear or two rolling down their cheeks. {sweet memories of growing up in Mexico}

In the United Kingdom it is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent and it is called Mothering Sunday. It has been that way since the 16th century. In Costa Rica they celebrate it on August 15th!

One of my first blog posts was about being a mom, I hope you enjoy it as much as I loved writing it.
