Copy Kids {a DVD review}

When Adventure Boy was born I was determined to prepare his meals when he started on solids, at 6 months we began with vegetables. Green vegetables to be exact. He loved his green beans and zucchini  we then added the rest of the vegetables except for corn and potato. We left those for after he had tried meat, chicken, turkey and fruits.

His favorite meal was chicken soup a "Baja" style "caldo" with all the vegetables and chicken all homemade and prepared by me. He would eat his meals with ease including the vegetables. Fruits well that has always been a different story, he has never enjoyed eating fruits. We didn't drink fruit juices at home so he wasn't into juices either. I would blend milk with banana and blueberry so he would eat his fruit blended as a "licuado" which is a shake except the only ingredients are milk and fruit. I was so proud as I would hear other parents complain of their picky eaters.

Last Spring as we moved from San Diego to Silicon Valley during the move it took us a couple of weeks to adjust and get into our new routine. Not cooking home prepared meals everyday was a challenge for him and finally when we got into our new routine of cooking he was not interested in the soups, the "licuados" or meals. He wanted nothing to do with vegetables.

I'm not proud of this, in fact it is something that I've felt guilty of. I know that as children grow they begin to decide their likes and dislikes, but for me there is no option around fresh fruits and vegetables. Specially since I've adopted a healthier lifestyle in June. He is the only one in our family that is not 100% on board and we are having issues with his meals.

I remember Adventure Girl going through a carb stage at around 3 years of age, all she wanted was bread, pasta and more bread and pasta. Then at 4 years of age she went back to loving salmon, shrimp, steaks, chicken and eating her fruits and vegetables. She was more adventurous as far as trying new foods.

However with a healthier lifestyle I know my son needs to eat more fruits and vegetables and including them in his meals as a puree can only last for so long. When Copy-Kids contacted me with information on their DVD I was highly interested. I thought that I could use it to influence him to eat more fruits and vegetables.

For starters when you receive the DVD it suggests you have all the fruits and vegetables on hand so when the child asks for them you have them and can give them to him. Also when watching the Copy Kids you want your child to have them with him so he can touch and feel them, smell and even take a bite out of them.

We printed a shopping list from Copy-Kids website with a picture of the fruits and vegetables needed. I had Adventure Boy help find them and even put them in a bag so we could pay for them. This was how I got him involved.

After our shopping trip it was time to watch Copy-Kids, he was very interested in each child on the DVD and the fruits and vegetables they were eating. His favorites were Mattea and Audrey. After he saw it for a week he was asking for the fruits and vegetables to show them to me. I love that we now go grocery shopping and he says: "Broccoli!" when he sees it! It makes me feel happy to know he is recognizing healthy snacks.

Copy-Kids is a great way for kids under the age of 5 to learn to eat fruits and vegetables and enjoy them. Children learn by example and love watching other kids eat, enjoy, smile and giggle. They feel a connection with them!

Copy-Kids has a pinterest board with great creative ideas for fruits and vegetables to be served!  Copy-Kids also has a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Make sure you follow them for updated information, ideas and recipes.

  2. What a great idea! I did not like hardly any fruits and veggies when I was younger, I think something like this might have helped. Now I love most all veggies!

  3. I wonder if my kiddo would benefit from this. She won't eat anything but crackers, toast, cereal, and yogurt. (I wish I were exaggerating!!) I even let her feed ME fruits and veggies and say how yummy they are, but maybe she needs to see it from her peer group!
