The 56th San Francisco International Film Festival is happening now through May 9th and this Sunday May 5th is the Shorts 6: Family Films. This event starts at 10:30 a.m. and is suggested for ages 6+.
We had the opportunity to preview the films and were simply surprised at how great they were, the following list is in order of our most favorite to our least.
Tintico's Afternoon: This is a funny, animated film which stars Tintico {an old orchestra player} and a group of mosquitoes who loves Tintico's music. It was cute to see the mosquitos play the maracas and the bongos. Our whole family was in love with the mosquitos and were very entertained.
The Goat Herder and his lots and lots and lots goats: This animated short was very colorful and also entertaining, there was no dialogue just great sound effects and editing that kept us asking for more. We were surprised to find out that is based on a story by a collaboration between a woman and a 2 year old!
Luminaris: This is an amazing short with fantastic special effects and editing. The story of a man that works from sun up to sun down at a factory for light bulbs. My 7 year old was fascinated by all the effects and that the fact that there was no dialogue but she could understand what was going on.
I'm going to Mum's: At the beginning we were a bit confused, the boy was narrating the story and we were wondering if it was a story about his mom or about him. As the short kept going we realized that the child was in a way teaching his parents a lesson about resolving their adult issues on their own. I thought it was a great concept, that is why it is number 4 on my list. However my 7 year old thought it was a bit boring and confusing.
Jonah and the Crab: This is a sweet movie about having a pet, Jonah {the main character} finds a crab at the beach and quickly begins preparing everything including a habitat for his new pet. It was very endearing, bringing back childhood memories of having a pet.
Cicada Princess: This animated short was very whimsical, it is the story of cicadas and how they only have wings for 2 days and 2 nights.
My friend Erham: The movie was a little confusing. We couldn't figure out if the children were siblings or friends then we found out from the subtitles in the middle of it all that it was an orphanage and they lived there. It teaches about responsibility.
Beethoven's Wig: our 7 year old daughter was laughing and singing to it. It was 100% musical.
