Let's Paint!

Spring break here is just around the corner and as a parent I am always on the search of new ways to have fun with my children.  I was recently shopping at our local craft store looking for ways to incorporate a little painting into our weekends, I found these cute wooden bird houses that are sold for $1.00!

I began to think of ways we could decorate them as a fun project to keep the kids entertained and allow their creative juices to flow. They had little wooden shapes such as bees, letters, picket fences, butterflies and more that could be glued to the birdhouse however I decided to go with simple painting to start us off in a fun way and playing with colors. I was there to supervise the entire time and enjoyed watching them paint.

I went with acrylic paint since the bottles were under $1.00 and got a couple of sponges and paint brushes. I prepped the dining table with some card stock so they wouldn't stain our furniture and found some paper plates to use for the paint to be easier to access.

The kids had so much fun painting and enjoyed it for a good hour, they enjoyed it so much that they keep asking for more birdhouses.

Getting Crafty {earring tutorial}

Last month I participated in a very special gift exchange with a great group of bloggers. This group is very creative and inspiring as most of them are very crafty and have amazing ideas. As part of our gift we had to make one to send to our secret Santa.

I am going to be completely honest with you and let you know that I am not that crafty, in fact this was I believe the second craft I've made in a long time!  I was happy to visit my local Michael's store and when I approached an employee and explained my situation she was in fact the Jewelry teacher. This meant that I had found the perfect person to guide me {after all I was completely clueless}.

She directed me to the charm collection and told me that if I choose a charm that I could attach a jump ring and then the ear wire to it and successfully make a pair of earrings.

I was so happy to know that I could get my craft on, even though as I said before I am not that crafty. ;)

When I got home I got straight to work, here is how I made the earrings:

1.- Open all packages and lay all materials out, ready to be used.

2.- Open one jump ring and inserted one charm into it. {I used an eyebrow tweezers to do this}

3.- Insert the ear wire and using a pair of small tweezers close the jump ring. Make sure you are gentle when closing the jump ring.

4.- Repeat steps 1 - 3 with other charm

And... voila! you have a new pair of earrings, easy right?

I was so proud of myself for doing this, not to mention these earrings look cute! ;)

This is not a sponsored post, I am not being paid in any shape or form to share this.  I just wanted to share with you my creation and hopefully inspire you to get crafty just like I did. ;)
