In Mexico on this day the traditional "Posadas" begin and take place nightly until Christmas Eve. This tradition is very special, it celebrates the journey that Mary and Joseph took to find shelter for Jesus' birth -who was born in a manger in Bethlehem. This event is usually held in local neighborhoods where complete families sing the "Posada" song: "En el nombre del cielo..." which translates to "In the name of heaven..." holding candles in their hand the participants walk and knock on participants front door.

It ends with everyone enjoying a pinata, the traditional Mexican Christmas punch "Calientito", tamales and more.
