Empanadas

INGREDIENTS:

For the filling try our "Picadillo" Cuban Style Minced Meat recipe. However you can fill with your favorite meat, chicken or turkey recipe and even with fruits!

For the Dough:

4 Cups of all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
2 Tsp of baking powder
2 Tsp of salt
1/2 Cup of cold butter
1 Cup of cold water
1 Large egg, lightly beaten when ready to bake with 1 Tbsp of water

PREPARATION OF DOUGH:

1.- In a bowl combine flour and salt. Using your fingers cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add just enough cold water so dough comes together.

2.- Roll out dough and cut in the shape of a circle. Add about 4 Tbsp of the "Picadillo" minced meat to each circle and fold in half forming into a semicircle shape.

3.- Place empanadas on parchment-lined baking sheets. Beat the egg with 1 Tbsp of water and brush the mixture on top. You can use a fork to give the edges more texture and to help even out crimped edges. Bake until golden brown at 400 degrees for 30 - 40 minutes.*

*Oven temperatures vary so make sure the outer layer is golden brown.
