Hicklebee's Bookstore

Last week Adventure Girl's teacher suggested we visit Hicklebee's Bookstore in the Willow Glen area in San Jose. We've shared how much we love reading and we are always looking for locally owned bookstores, of course a few minutes later we were heading down to Hicklebee's.

For starters we had never been to the Willow Glen area in San Jose and we thought it was beautiful. It reminded us of Downtown Chula Vista with all the shops, restaurants and boutiques. The kids were very excited to explore a new bookstore.

We found parking on the street exactly at their door {they do have parking in the back too}. This bookstore is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The kind of store that you never want to leave.

We approached the register area where we asked for help in finding books suitable for Adventure Girl and informed them at what level she was reading. They asked her what she liked of course the first thing she said was: "Fairies!" We were quickly shown a complete section of fictional books and she was very excited to see all the options.

I mentioned that I was looking for a book for Adventure Boy specifically about transportation {i.e. cars, trucks, tractors, etc.} we were pleasantly surprised to find a large selection of board books along the theme. However in the end he choose: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom! His new favorite song and book.

What makes Hicklebee's so special you may ask, it's simple they have unique books and decor. They are very customer oriented and love books and book readers. They also love authors! they host events where the authors come in and read their books. Hicklebee's walls are simply decorated painted in plain white but full of memories, autographs and drawings that authors and illustrators have left for them and us to enjoy.

There is a selection of autographed books for sale and they also have unique toys and support local authors! Best of all we felt welcomed and they took the time to get to know us. Adventure Girl loved them so much that she keeps asking when we will go back {hopefully soon, because that would mean she finished her chapter book}.

Hicklebee's is located at 1378 Lincoln Ave. in San Jose and they are open 7 days a week with extended hours on Thursdays and Fridays. For hours and directions click HERE
