I mean besides trying new foods and taking in the culture of our destination.
That's right, we like to wander in local shops to see what goods they offer. To see how they dress, what they have in style and so on. I've always shared my love for small boutique, artisan and handmade shops, while living in the US I used to check out local bookstores and local shops online. I also followed some ETSY shops and I do love reading creative blogs. Creative people have the best ideas!
A couple of weeks ago while my sister was visiting she shared a few artisan shops that are in Costa Rica, she had found them on instagram and had began following them and learning about their handmade products. That is how my sister discovered espacio KSCA.
Andrea Rojas the founder of espacio KSCA is also the owner of an artisan shop called eterea, in her shop she designs shoes, dresses, swimsuits and handbags. She created espacio KSCA as a community in which she could help promote other Costa Rican handmade shops and has some permanent products {ones that are always found in espacio KSCA} and others that rotate in the displays.
The last time I visited she had some great artisan shops that I'm now currently following all over social media to see what products they will release amongst them is Hola Lola, Killer Queen and Cuero Papel & Tijera.
Last December I posted a picture on instagram of one of these handbags and got asked where it was from, well here you have the entire display of Cuero, Papel & Tijera which translates to "leather, paper & scissors". We've exchanged tweets and they've asked me to stop by their workshop in downtown San Jose, I hope to be able to visit them soon as I have been wanting a turquoise wallet since I discovered them.
Hola Lola is trendy, chic and contemporary designs be it their coffee mugs or their totes and even their gift tags I am truly head over heels over this shop. I personally love these items, inspired by each province sharing what makes them unique.
The shop that got us hooked: Killer Queen mostly due to their awesome bracelets, my sister fell instantly in love with Sofia Kopper's designs and contacted her as soon as she arrived in Costa Rica to find the nearest retail store for some bracelets. This conversation lead us to espacio KSCA and we couldn't be happier.
One of the shops on display that my kids love is NoMe Llamo, which is a shop that makes monsters. Although we are not afraid of these monsters. Aren't they cute?
On my shopping list for ASAP is this cute and colorful day planner:
There is are so many lovely products to purchase at espacio KSCA from organic aromatherapy, handmade candles, handmade soap bars, beautiful rings...
And of course espacio KSCA has several local jewelers such as Bartucciotto, aren't these bracelets divine? Which one is your favorite the turquoise or the black one on the bottom?
espacio KSCA is located in the Escazú area in San Jose Costa Rica 25 meters East of the Rolex Shopping Center and is open:
Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Make sure you follow them on Facebook as they have special events in which they teach painting, drawing, sketching, sewing and much more! Andrea's main objective is to share her passion for design and art and what better way than learning from her and the community she's founded.
That looks like a great place to gift shop (hint hint) LOL. I love finding little shops like that--maybe I'll have to figure out how to get down to Costa Rica soon!
