Rangoli Chalk Art in Celebration of Diwali




It's almost time for Family Sunday at Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park and this month they have a special program planned out to celebrate Diwali {Indian festival of lights}. 


WHEN: Sunday October 21st 

TIME: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

ADMISSION: $5.00/family or $3.00/individual

Starla Lewis who is an artist, author, professor and transformational speaker; you can learn more about her at Sunkisses.  Sunkisses is positive images and love messages for young people. Celebrate diversity through Art. Come see yourself, come color yourself, come design yourself and more!



Also joining in on all the fun Aunt Li-Anne from Aunt Li-Anne's Story Garden and The Storytellers of San Diego. Inspired by the Museum's exhibition True Blue. Aunt Li-Anne's "Clever Tales That Touch The Heart" may take you to meet Strong Willed Princesses, Small but powerful heroes or masked and mischievous godlings! All linked by the Blue Theme. You are invited to travel, laugh and sing or cry and shout, and above all imagine and transform on our True Blue Journey. 
Storytelling will be at 2:30 p.m.

Where? What? Wednesdays week 3/16

PAPER AIRPLANE FESTIVAL
San Diego Air & Space Museum
Balboa Park

This family festival features hands-on activities, while there you will learn to fold many different types of space themed paper airplanes and enter a competition of farthest flight, distance, longest air time and accuracy. Food will also be available for purchase at the Flight Path Grill.

DATE: Saturday March 17th
TIME: 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (at 3:00 there will be a group launch in front of the Museum)
COST: Adults $17.50 / Children under 12 are FREE with paid adult.
AGES: All ages welcomed

SCIENCE FAMILY DAY
Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
Balboa Park

The 2012 San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering is taking over San Diego! they are partnering with the Fleet to host Science Family Day with a FREE gallery admission all day. Special hands-on activities and take home litter bugs and magical shrinking plastic key chains. There is also discounted IMAX admission at $9.50 per person.

DATE: Saturday March 17th
TIME: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
COST: FREE admission to galleries
AGES: All ages welcomed

CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
Japanese Friendship Garden
Balboa Park

The 7th annual Cherry Blossom Festival is this weekend, there are 150 cherry trees in the Japanese Friendship Garden. This event will have hands-on crafts and cultural demonstrations. Japanese food will be sold.

DATE: Saturday March 17th
TIME: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
COST: $4.00 per adult/ children under 12 FREE with paid adult
AGES: All ages welcomed

FAMILY SUNDAY
Mingei International Museum
Balboa Park

It's the third Sunday of the month which means it's Family Sunday at Mingei. Treasure hunt, hands-on craft and a prize are all part of the fun. Plus enjoy all the many wonderful crafts and art on display. This month the activity is making books, journals and photo albums.

DATE: Sunday March 18th
TIME: 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
COST: $5.00 per family
AGES: All ages welcomed

If you are attending any of the events listed above that take place in Balboa Park on Saturday March 17th please keep in mind there is a St. Patrick's Day Parade & Irish Festival on Fifth and Sixth Ave. so consider an alternate route.
